Coordinator's Corner
New local residential volunteers will be delivering the bi-monthly newsletter in the suburbs of East Ryde, parts of North Ryde and Putney. The EW21 Eastwood area near Blaxland Rd will recommence distribution after a pause.
It's great to be out and about again, and able to mix a little more freely in the neighbourhood. On reflection it should help us all to appreciate the things in life that really matter most.
So, what have we been doing in the "era of restrictions"? NHW Ryde has been following up on requests for Neighbourhood Watch (and the newsletter) to be re-introduced into local neighbourhoods that have not been part of the NHW community for some time.
It is hoped that NHW Ryde will be able to introduce the Gladesville and Top Ryde areas with the "with a little help from our friends" - new volunteer residents as well as sponsors.
Finally, our Annual General Meeting has been deferred to 7pm on Wednesday 1st of December.
Home Security
Recently there have been several reported thefts of items from local residents' garages and properties. These have been undetected because of the lack of active surveillance equipment. Some residents have now installed motion activated cameras around the home. Consider installing your own cameras to deter thieves.
Scams - 'Yes - another one'
There are some very tricky scammers out there trying new schemes out every day. The 'double whammy' is the latest to hit our screens with a "link" to press in order to NOT receive scams. One press of the link on your mobile phone and WHAM you have just downloaded some malware onto your phone - potentially compromising your identity, contacts, and personal private information. Information obtained this way can result in scammers fleecing money out of victim's accounts.
NEVER press the "link" or "verify" any financial details to any downloaded instruction. Do not be curious to just check to see what the "link" may display.
THINK TWICE - ACT ONCE - IGNORE THE SCAMMER, DELETE THE EMAIL OR TEXT.
Local Government Elections - 4 December 2021
Our community deserves honest and ethical decision makers to act on our behalf, represent our community, and keep us safe. Please check out what each individual candidate stands for and whether they are best placed to represent our community on your behalf. Whatever your interests or political persuasion - please ensure that you put the community at the forefront so that we have strong governance as times are a'changing.
Let's make it for the better - our community first.
Sponsors & Supporters of Ryde NHW
NHW really appreciates having a wonderful bunch of newsletter sponsors who have been through a fairly tough time in the past 18 months - with all of the restrictions throughout our community.
If you are needing any of the services as advertised in our newsletters, then please consider supporting them.
As you utilise their services when needed, they are able to help us. This way we can close the triangle by being able to provide home safety information and tops on how to reduce the risk of criminal activity to you, our local residents.
