About Us
Neighbourhood Watch - Creating Safer Communities
Neighbourhood Watch commenced life in NSW in 1985 in response to rising crime, and community safety concerns. Today, as times change, NHW covers all aspects of keeping safe.
Our main aims are to improve community safety, help prevent and reduce the fear of crime. In addition to our main aim of combating crime, we also help out in other significant ways that assist our communities such as educating our community on safety awareness.
Neighbourhood Watch Ryde District (NHW Ryde) is about making sure that no one has to feel afraid, vulnerable or isolated in the place where they live. It's about people looking out for each-other - crossing barriers of age, race and class to create strong, cohesive communities that benefit everyone.
Neighbourhood Watch performs as the eyes and ears of the community assisting the NSW Police. NHW Ryde liaises with the Ryde Police Area Command through their Crime Prevention Officers based at the Gladesville Police station. It has been shown that active Neighbourhood Watch areas are far less likely to be targeted by criminals.
"Crime cannot flourish in a community that cares."
We are a not-for-profit organisation, non-party in politics, and operate an equal opportunities and non-discriminatory policy. Anybody can join regardless of their background, and membership is free.
